Paul Wilkinson highlights the findings of a recent KPMG global construction survey report on technology use by engineering and construction companies. Basically, one in 10 companies are at the leading edge while the rest are trying to keep up. This reflects the traditional conservatism towards technology that exists in construction. Coordinating BIM with Field Tolerances
The increased use of building information modeling (BIM) for fabrication and clash detection has led a trend toward tighter tolerances, which doesn't always match with the reality of what's happening in the field. Several recognized construction handbooks have allowable tolerances that have become industry standards over the years which may be looser than those in a BIM specification.
